Hiker's Blog on Corsica Island

GR20's stages

Thanks to a big help of my wife I’ve finally published separate pages for all 15 stages of the GR 20 trail. Every page contains a short description (rather too short for the time being) of the particular stage and a map. The maps use Google mapping engine as does the map of the whole trail, but they are more detailed — they include all alternate routes and even the basic route consists of much more points.

These new, high-resolution routes are actually the first result of my work on accurate trail recording and mapping. I already have tracklogs of GR 20 and some other Corsican long-distance paths that I’m going to publish as GPX files for GPS devices very soon.

Starting a blog

Well, everyone has a blog, why not me? In fact, I’ve been blogging already for 5 years, but my themes and the place was different. Now I’m starting this blog on Corsica.forHikers.com for three main reasons:

  1. As I build the content of this website, I need a place to collect all information I’ve found in a raw form. I’ve been using research tools like Del.ici.ous or Google Notebook to save links and excerpts, but finally I decided to make all my notes related to Corsica right here and share them with you.
  2. The audience of Corsica.forHikers.com is growing and about 20% of you come here more than once. Because I’ve been adding or changing content at least once a week, I need a way to tell you what was added or changed. A blog is a perfect tool for that.
  3. Last but not least, doing my research I often find up to date information and news related to Corsica. Including them into rather static pages of the on-line guidebook would be difficult, a blog posts are much better for them.
